What is HDMI 4K resolution?

When you mention HDMI, you are talking about the technology invented to serve the transmission of image and audio data. To understand what HDMI 4K resolution is, we should have an overview of HDMI first.

What is HDMI?

HDMI is short for High-Definition Multimedia Interface. HDMI is a connectivity standard, typically transmitting audio, video and digital data. Compared to other connectors, HDMI transmits better sound quality and images, easier and faster.

Which device has HDMI port?

HDMI (MHL) port connects your phone to the TV screen

Different HDMI ports will have different connectivity and data transfer functions. One of them is HDMI port (MHL). MHL stands for Mobile High-Definition Link. This is a connectivity standard, allowing images to be displayed from a mobile device (smartphone or tablet) that supports MHL cast to a larger screen (usually a television).

The HDMI (ARC) port solves the audio problem

A lot of users are experiencing audio problems when connecting to HDMI. In fact, to output audio to the speakers, you must use the HDMI (ARC) port.

HDMI port (without ARC) can only receive image data and audio from devices such as laptops, but cannot export.

HDMI port (STB), digital connection

STB, short for Step-Top-Box, is the decoder for your TV to connect to digital television, internet TV and digital receivers. This is the port that brings the best picture and sound quality.

HDMI 4K resolution

The HDMI 1.4 version is old thus cannot meet the 4K movement of this era, this is also the reason for the introduction of HDMI 2.0. The HDMI 2.0 standard offers an upgrade in bandwidth up to 18Gbps, which is double that of HDMI 1.4. In addition, this standard also enables 4K format projection, up to 4 times the Full HD 1080p mode (1,920 x 1,080 pixels).
